Try these Left Center Right variations and house rules

The official LCR dice game rules are available on our homepage. Our free online game follows these rules. But if you've got some LCR dice, or don't mind marking up some existing 6-sided ones, roll the dice on these house rules and different variations.

Try to keep up in LCR Wild

Custom LCR dice with letters C, R, and W, where W represents a wild card rule variation.

In LCR Wild, one of the three dice has one side that is a "wild" symbol (sometimes just a “W”). You could use a small sticker on a standard set of LCR dice game dice to serve as a marker. Landing on the wild means you can take a chip from any other player, no matter their position around the table (left, center, right, or diagonal, across, doesn't matter!)

LCR "Last Chip Wins" alternative

Typically, in a LCR dice game you want to collect all the chips on the table (poker chips are the most common markers). But in "Last Chip Wins", the last person you want to be is the one holding all the chips. Instead, the first person to unload all their chips wins.

Raise the stakes on game nights

LCR is a fast-paced game, so whoever is winning or losing can change fast. Consider raising the stakes by assigning higher dollar amounts (or prize winnings) to your poker chips.

You can also consider:

Add a star to your LCR dice game

Some LCR dice game kits have a star on their dice. If yours don't, use a sticker or some other indicator. Then, when a player lands on the star they can keep their chips from that roll. It's a similar idea to LCR Wild, but with lower stakes. Or, add a sticker to a Wild side on some die for more variety.

Pro tip: you can write “W” or “S” if you want to indicate a Wild or Star. Check out our guide on using a $10 set of Avery labels to write and map a standard dice set for more.

LCR is now the Right Center Left game — on timers

Illustration of an hourglass with red circular arrows symbolizing a timer reset or replay mechanic.

Use someone's phone to set a timer, and after a set interval, say 90 seconds, reverse the direction everyone is playing. This also means any "L" is now a "right" and any "R" is "left".

Center steal

If you roll three dots •••, steal one chip from the center pot (if any). It makes that pool of otherwise “useless” chips into something valuable. Or, pair this with the “Last Chip Wins” variation and it can become a huge setback.

Also fun if each of the chips are worth a small treat or money.

LCR roll-back redemption

Eliminated players can get back in the game at the start of each first round by rolling one dice. If they roll a dot •, they're back in to play the dice game.

Eliminate the Center pot entirely

If someone rolls a "C", instead of passing a chip to the center, pass the chip to a random player. You could let players decide, or determine who gets the chip by a separate dice roll or spinning a simple marker.

Add in the LCR "Bomb"

Custom LCR dice showing a bomb symbol for wild play, the letter L, and a single dot.

Mark one token or chip as a "bomb", and if someone ends up with the bomb and is eliminated, all their remaining chips go back to the center. You can replace one of the dots on one of the die with a B or Bomb icon. Check out this guide for more.

Use different sets of dice for each player

Normally in the LCR dice game each player rolls the same three LCR dice as everyone else. But at the start, consider giving everyone their own set of LCR dice all mixed and matched with altered faces. Maybe one player ends up with more "C" die while another has more dots •••.

Shuffle the dice around at the start based on other strategies, like random draws from a bag. Or, let people pick their dice based on the number of random trivia questions they can answer correctly.

How many dice a person starts with is also up for grabs. Maybe ensure everyone gets at least two, but maybe some get four.
